Archives For fashion blog

fulledit2reduxHello, everyone! I’m sorry I missed you yesterday, but now I have clear sinuses, un-puffy eyes, and a new haircut, and I’m ready to rock it! I brought back an old favorite for today’s outfit – my much loved poppy circle skirt (Psst! It’s on sale!). I always use it as an excuse not to match. This time I paired it with a turquoise top and a necklace that has absolutely none of the same colors as the skirt. When nothing matches, it all matches, right?

This morning really felt like the beginning of fall, which I hope marks some new beginnings in my life. I thought I would be bored out of my mind being an unemployed person (hopefully only temporarily), but I’ve been busier than ever putting together new opportunities for this blog, looking for a new job, and, of course, a lot of dancing. I don’t know if in the near future I’ll be gainfully employed, working for myself, or a little bit of both, but I’m excited to see where it all goes!

As readers, I do want to formally let you all know that I’ve recently added affiliate banners and links to my sidebar and within my posts. I assure you I wouldn’t align myself with any company or store that I wouldn’t shop at myself, and all the clothes and products I wear and display or any collaboration I may do in the future are all of my choosing as they always have been. As much as I want this blog to provide me with some income, I also want to make you all aware of brands and retailers you might not already be familiar with so you know all the options you have for your wardrobe. You’ll still see many pieces of clothing and accessories from merchants with which I have no affiliation that I just happen to dig, and I hope you all do, too. I also hope that you all stick with me through this even if you never click on an affiliate link because from the beginning I’ve wanted this blog to be a resource for those of us who feel limited as to where we can shop.

keep1_FotoreditHappy Sunday! I was fully prepared for a cloudy, overcast morning, but much to my surprise it was sunny…and even slightly cool. I’m sure it won’t last all day, but I’m glad the weather was nice for some pre-church pics. I featured this dress in my ModHaul video was psyched to get it on sale. I would have never picked out it as little as a year ago being afraid people wouldn’t take me seriously or think that I wouldn’t know anything about obscure bands and such. Blogging has changed that mindset. Now I know I can wear a Peter Pan color and still geek out about Replacements, Pavement, or whatever band I’m obsessing about. Besides, being taken seriously isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. I am who I am, and sometimes you even have to laugh at yourself. keep5_Fotoreditredux keep3_Fotoreditredux missy1_FotorreduxMissy doesn’t like taking pictures. I hope this doesn’t qualify as animal cruelty… keep2_FotorreduxI’m glad I embraced the happiness of this dress, and I can’t wait to transition it to my fall and winter wardrobe. You may just see it again later with some tights and cardigan. Much love to all my readers and Instagram followers who are already experiencing fall weather. How has your fashion sense changed throughout the years? What would you wear now that you wouldn’t before? Leave me a comment! Thanks for reading, and see you tomorrow! This past weekend at work, we had our own mini version of Comic-Con, so of course I had to cosplay! You don’t have to ask a magic mirror to figure out who I decided to be. This Pin Up Girl Clothing dress with print by Stephanie Buscema was quite the inspiration for the whole outfit. I love the illustrator’s “atomic” take on the Snow White story. The second most exciting thing about this outfit, for me at least, are the shoes! After looking for what feels like forever, I finally found some red flats! They’re from Jessica London, and with those sweet little bows, were worth the wait. I had to hit up the craft store for everything else! The necklace, pendant, bandana, and even the apple are all from Hobby Lobby.

So, do you want a bite? (But, seriously, don’t eat that.)

Welcome to something new on Super Style Me! In “A Case of the Fridays,” I’ll feature what I’m into nowadays whether it be fashion, beauty, or entertainment-related. I’ve seen many-a-blogger do Friday favorites, and I’m joining the club! I’ll provide the links here, but also check out my Pinterest and YouTube channel for all that tickles my Friday fancy!

Fashion

Although we’re still in the dead-middle of summer in South Louisiana, fashion-wise I’m fast-forwarding to fall. While things are improving by leaps and bounds for plus size fashion, there are still garments I have a difficult time finding, namely coats and heavier jackets. My big mistake is I wait too long. I’m learning I have to act fast on season-specific items (swimwear also falls into this category) to get something I like and not have to make do with the frumpy leftovers. I love the above Myrtlewood trench by Modcloth, and I know I’m going to have to order it soon to make sure I get one!

Jenny, Jenny!

I recently ordered a Jenny dress and skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing, and I’m in love! The fit is perfect, and I’m wearing the dress in a novelty print to do a cosplay at work tomorrow. Because of the price and high-quality, Jenny is clearly an investment piece which is why I’m considering ordering one dress in a solid color in order to get a lot of wear out of it. Maybe they’ll make one soon in red…(hint! hint!)

Beauty

Chocolate eyeshadow. I could stop there, right? This sweet-smelling Too Faced palette actually contains cocoa powder. It is surprisingly versatile, too. It’s full of neutral colors with a touch of purple. I got it a couple of months ago, and I find myself wearing it everyday.

Blogs

Flock Together: These ladies take swapping clothes with friends to the next level. Everyone in the group has their own individual fashion blog, and by the magic of the postal service, they trade clothes cross-country┬áso you get several takes on the same garment. Ingenious idea! I’d love to develop a plus sized version of this…any takers? I included no pics of this blog because I want you to go to there already!

Books

Hey! It’s that guy! You know, Ryan from The Office. If you’ve been wondering what he’s been doing since, check out this collection of stories. Some are funny, some are heart-felt, and many are both. Newsflash: he’s smart. Like, Harvard smart–probably because he went there. I must admit, I didn’t actually “read” this one. I listened to it on audiobook during a long road trip to South Carolina. I do recommend listening to humorous books, especially when they’re read by the author, because it feels like sharing stories and laughing with a good friend. Thanks for keeping me company, dude!

Television

Later…with Jools Holland

Ever wanted to get your favorite bands and musicians and put them together in one room? This BBC show does just that! Each show has a line-up to rival any summer music festival. I always wonder how they do it. They’ll have someone legendary like Paul McCartney, then a hip group like Vampire Weekend, followed by an up-and-comer like Little Dragon. I always go all fangirl when I watch it. And, as you see in the above video with Jack White, Jools, who was a member of the British band Squeeze (one of my ’80s faves), plays a little bit, too. Catch Later…with Jools Holland in ‘Merica on the Palladia channel.

Music

St. Vincent: I think I’m late to realizing how awesome she is. She has several albums out already, and her new self-titled one is the first I’ve heard. She’s even made an album with David Byrne that I need to check out. Time to catch up!

Phantogram: This is one of my favorite new bands! Their second album, Voices, came out not too long ago, but this is a track from their first one.

I hope my picks put you in a Friday kind of mood! If you’d like to share some of your favorite things, leave me a comment!

See ya later!
