Archives For November 30, 1999

Welcome to something new on Super Style Me! In “A Case of the Fridays,” I’ll feature what I’m into nowadays whether it be fashion, beauty, or entertainment-related. I’ve seen many-a-blogger do Friday favorites, and I’m joining the club! I’ll provide the links here, but also check out my Pinterest and YouTube channel for all that tickles my Friday fancy!

Fashion

Although we’re still in the dead-middle of summer in South Louisiana, fashion-wise I’m fast-forwarding to fall. While things are improving by leaps and bounds for plus size fashion, there are still garments I have a difficult time finding, namely coats and heavier jackets. My big mistake is I wait too long. I’m learning I have to act fast on season-specific items (swimwear also falls into this category) to get something I like and not have to make do with the frumpy leftovers. I love the above Myrtlewood trench by Modcloth, and I know I’m going to have to order it soon to make sure I get one!

Jenny, Jenny!

I recently ordered a Jenny dress and skirt from Pinup Girl Clothing, and I’m in love! The fit is perfect, and I’m wearing the dress in a novelty print to do a cosplay at work tomorrow. Because of the price and high-quality, Jenny is clearly an investment piece which is why I’m considering ordering one dress in a solid color in order to get a lot of wear out of it. Maybe they’ll make one soon in red…(hint! hint!)

Beauty

Chocolate eyeshadow. I could stop there, right? This sweet-smelling Too Faced palette actually contains cocoa powder. It is surprisingly versatile, too. It’s full of neutral colors with a touch of purple. I got it a couple of months ago, and I find myself wearing it everyday.

Blogs

Flock Together: These ladies take swapping clothes with friends to the next level. Everyone in the group has their own individual fashion blog, and by the magic of the postal service, they trade clothes cross-country so you get several takes on the same garment. Ingenious idea! I’d love to develop a plus sized version of this…any takers? I included no pics of this blog because I want you to go to there already!

Books

Hey! It’s that guy! You know, Ryan from The Office. If you’ve been wondering what he’s been doing since, check out this collection of stories. Some are funny, some are heart-felt, and many are both. Newsflash: he’s smart. Like, Harvard smart–probably because he went there. I must admit, I didn’t actually “read” this one. I listened to it on audiobook during a long road trip to South Carolina. I do recommend listening to humorous books, especially when they’re read by the author, because it feels like sharing stories and laughing with a good friend. Thanks for keeping me company, dude!

Television

Later…with Jools Holland

Ever wanted to get your favorite bands and musicians and put them together in one room? This BBC show does just that! Each show has a line-up to rival any summer music festival. I always wonder how they do it. They’ll have someone legendary like Paul McCartney, then a hip group like Vampire Weekend, followed by an up-and-comer like Little Dragon. I always go all fangirl when I watch it. And, as you see in the above video with Jack White, Jools, who was a member of the British band Squeeze (one of my ’80s faves), plays a little bit, too. Catch Later…with Jools Holland in ‘Merica on the Palladia channel.

Music

St. Vincent: I think I’m late to realizing how awesome she is. She has several albums out already, and her new self-titled one is the first I’ve heard. She’s even made an album with David Byrne that I need to check out. Time to catch up!

Phantogram: This is one of my favorite new bands! Their second album, Voices, came out not too long ago, but this is a track from their first one.

I hope my picks put you in a Friday kind of mood! If you’d like to share some of your favorite things, leave me a comment!

See ya later!
