Holy alarm clock, Batman! I recently figured out the best time to take outfit pics is early in the morning. That’s when the light is best, and the heat and, ahem, sweat is not as much of an issue. I’m not an early bird by any stretch of the imagination, having to bounce between early and late shifts at my last job, but it felt great yesterday to wake up and get so much accomplished even before lunch time, I think I may just make this a lasting habit.

I bought this dress back in the spring, and I never did a proper outfit post wearing it, although I’ve worn it out and about several times. It’s so stretchy! I picked my necklace and shoes based on the color of the contrast stitching in the dress. I love the way the coral tones match.

Poppy Picks!

Am I celebrating my birthday a bit too early? The poppy is the flower for those of us born in August, and being an August baby myself, lately I’ve been gravitating toward poppy prints. I have great memories of my mom planting poppies for me as a kid–she also planted daffodils for my sister, born in March. This isn’t the first time I’ve worn poppies on the blog, and I keep finding more and more great poppy pieces! Not crazy about poppies? Remember this is a blog about developing your own personal style, and poppies just happen to be my thing. Think about your own favorite things when picking out clothes and accessories. Do you like astronomy? How about a dress in a galaxy print! Got a cute kitten at home? Try some cat-eye sunnies! You see what I mean! Nonetheless, I hope you like my poppy picks from around the web.

First, the outfit of the day:

BeccaPoppyDress2

This is another fun Lucie Lu dress from Gwynnie Bee! I hoped that they would send me this one, and I’m so glad it worked. My sandals are from Torrid, and they’re a couple of years old. I had a tough time accessorizing this outfit, though, so I kept it simple…

I decided to keep the accessories birthday-themed with both of my necklaces featuring my zodiac sign. Go LEO! The script necklace is from Shop Soul, and the constellation necklace is from Charming Charlie.

Remember this outfit? This poppy skirt is still available at Modcloth! Here’s the original post for the rest of the outfit’s details.

Of course we can’t talk about poppies without mentioning this classic Marimekko print. You can find on tons of fashion and home items in different colorways. You can even buy the fabric here!

Here are some sweet retro-inspired poppy print dresses:

Of course you need a purse! I’ve ordered from Queen Bee Creations a few times. Their bags are cute and durable!

I’ve also featured more of my poppy favorites on Pinterest including lots of amazing jewelry and artwork from Etsy sellers. I hope you enjoy! As for me, I’m off to see the wizard!

I didn’t get a lot of good full-outfit photos of this dress mainly because my bra strap kept making an appearance. If you’re good at Where’s Waldo?, you may even spot it a few times…

IMG_1901 copy 2I had some fun with my make-up. Teal eyeliner and bright orange-red lips!

I got these shoes from Torrid a few years ago. I haven’t worn them much, but they’re so cute that I can’t part with them. Maybe they were waiting for this dress…

This Lane Bryant dress was one of my first attempts of wearing white, and I love the summery look! Also, another Where’s Waldo challenge–can you spot the farm equipment in the background? See ya next time!

Spring Simplicity

April 7, 2014 — 6 Comments

IMG_1342I admit I’m not the best country girl, but, dude…flowers! I was afraid I wasn’t going to be able to take pictures today because the forecast called for rain, but luckily all the storms passed last night, and we had a really pretty spring day. If you look really close, you may see some bees, but but they left me alone. I love that with the weather warming up, I get to wear dresses again. I’ve even been wearing them to work, which probably isn’t very practical, but whatever…

IMG_1344This dress is from eShakti, and I love the keyhole neckline so much! I ordered a few dresses from them, and so far, so good. Here’s another one I posted a while back. I find I take more chances when I order from them because I know the fit will be right. For example, I usually have to worry about the bust being too big to get the proper fit for my hips, so I would probably pass on a neckline like this from anywhere else because it wouldn’t lay correctly or be too loose. The same thing for the previously mentioned sheath dress, but since they made the dresses to my measurements, I decided to give it a go. Not too shabby!

IMG_1346Because of the detail of the neckline, I decided not to go too crazy with jewelry and accessories. I’m wearing earrings from Forever 21.

I found this bracelet clutch at Charming Charlie

And, these flats came from Jessica London.

IMG_1343I think I found my Easter outfit! Until next time, peeps!
